Poll: Do you like the idea of a waste-to-energy plant in Te Awamutu?
A $200m-plus plan to make electricity through burning rubbish is back on the cards for Te Awamutu.
Opponents say the proposed plant would be a “toxic incinerator” but Global Contracting Solutions (GCS) has applied for resource consent and says it stands by the science.
The facility proposed for Racecourse Rd would incinerate 150,000 tonnes of waste a year and generate electricity from steam, Waipā District Council said.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
