Hey mount roskill neighbours

Reuben from Mount Roskill

Hey Mount Roskill folk, can I encourage you all to look out for your neighbours (and if you haven't spoken to your neighbours, say "G'day mate" or "Kia ora" or something). Sometimes it's the small things that really make a community a better place and can brighten someone's day. The reason I say this is because I overheard two neighbours a few houses away from my place, literally yelling and swearing at each other for a good 5 minutes today in Kimber Hall Ave - and it appeared that neither neighbour took steps to de-escalate. I don't know what the context of the discussion was, and I didn't initially even know where the yelling was coming from until I spoke with someone else who saw it. But the whole ordeal just reminded me that actually I can do better to make others in the neighbourhood feel welcome, and that I could be more intentional about creating a sense of community with the households around me with the ultimate hope that neighbours don't feel so isolated from one another, which one might achieve by just being neighbourly/friendly even if just a smile as you walk past someone. Anywho, I'm not saying this will solve all of the worlds problems, but I thought I'd just share my reflections here on the group anyway. Thanks neighbours 💜

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
