Leg traps in Tainui Reserve
In case you weren’t aware someone has put leg traps in Tainui Reserve - there is an alert from HDC on Facebook - please be careful with walking dogs in this area. These traps are dangerous to people and animals. The HDC have responded quickly to this by sending a team in to find and remove these. Quite unsettling for this to happen in such a loved community park. Stay safe and be on the look out.

In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.

New neighbour
Okay folks, if you feed your animals outside, you might want to rethink that. We have new nocturnal neighbours, inside Havelock North.
There is a very well fed brush tail possum up the pōhutukawa tree in my garden.
I don’t know where it’s come in from, but it’s in the middle of a residential neighbourhood, so keep an eye on your pet doors, open windows and doors and pet food.
I’ll be notifying council and DOC tomorrow.
