Geese to be removed from Henley Lake
The Masterton Council is about to begin culling Canada geese at Henley Lake. There are currently 400 birds. It is hoped to reduce the population by around 30 per cent. The geese will be captured and transported live from the park.
In other parts of the geese are considered a major pest. Their droppings can carry diseases such as avian influenza, campylobacter, Escherichia coli, and salmonella, and large populations foul waterways.
