Meet Tiaki, kaitiaki of the ngahere, our kauri hero dog
He always stays on track and will soon be visiting a reserve near you. We can't wait to for you to meet him.
Tiaki means 'to care for' and we thought it is the perfect name!
Keep an eye out once alert levels allow as we have exciting plans for Tiaki.🐕🌳
Congratulations to Davina Dean and Karea Sutherland Âû, the winners of the naming competition. They both proposed the name Kaitiaki, which is very close. Please send us a DM so we can organise prizes.
Thanks Chris Hannent for his volunteer design work bringing our kauri hero and their kurī to life, and Auckland Council and their Auckland Biosecurity team for their ongoing support.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
