Developer wants council 'vision' to advance $15 million Greytown project

Reporter Community News

A piece of public land stands between a Greytown developer and his $15 million hotel concept, because the town lacks a vision, he says.
Adam Blackwell proposed the Pahikara accommodation and tourism hub venture last year, but the council was not keen to take up his offer to purchase a “perfectly placed” block of land between West and Main streets.
South Wairarapa Mayor Alex Beijen said the council won’t be selling this important piece of central Greytown land without first properly consulting residents.
“The council has been quite clear that the status, and thus future use of the last remaining piece of public land in Greytown CBD is a decision for the people of the South Wairarapa.
Do you think this is a good idea?

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
