Leaders with vision

Jacinta from Levin

My heart goes out to the Foxton people trying to stop the PN Council from dumping treated sewage into the Manawatu River (story in today's Chronicle) and to the Hokio people trying to get the HDC to stop dumping treated sewage into what what was once a beautiful little lake (The Pot) and is now a toxic site from which the public are banned. Can someone tell me why, why, why can't every home have a modern septic tank system! Think of the massive amounts of money we would save? When the tank needed emptying it could be taken to some place that converted sewage into fertiliser (this is done in other countries) and used in a beneficial way for the environment. Why do councils keep throwing massive amounts of our taxpayers money at the problem and not at innovative solutions for the future well-being of people and the planet? I don't recall giving my consent to the people I voted for to do this with the money I give them. Did you?

Say goodbye to tyre waste

Tyrewise

About 40% of the 6.5 million tyres Kiwis use every year are recycled, repurposed, or used as tyre-derived fuel. But the rest end up in landfills, stockpiled or dumped.

The good news is now there’s an easy solution to all that tyre waste. It’s called Tyrewise and is New Zealand’s first national tyre recycling scheme.

Tyrewise ensures that tyres in Aotearoa New Zealand are recycled or repurposed properly, saving millions from going to the landfill.

Find out more about the scheme online.
