Enjoy Easter in the Taupō District

Darren Petry from Taupō District Council

Have you heard about all the cool events and activities happening around our district this Easter?

There’s something for everyone, so get out and support local these holidays.

Easterfest, our annual pop-up style street festival, is on in Taupō from Good Friday to April 5. It’ll feature world-class street performers, an Easter egg hunt, a hot chocolate competition, Easter movies at Starlight Cinema and more.

If you’re in Taupō you can also catch the New Zealand National Finals Rodeo or watch the Lake Taupō Yacht Club Easter Trailer Yacht and Sports Boat Regatta on Saturday and Sunday.

In Mangakino, the Easter Event and Raft Race 2021 are happening on the Lake Maraetai lakefront on Sunday April 4. It’ll kick off with an Easter service at 9am, followed by music, races, games and food stalls from 9.30am and the raft race at 12.30pm.

Easter public holidays mean some of our facilities will be closed. Taupō, Turangi and Mangakino libraries will be closed on Good Friday, Sunday April 4 and Monday April 5.

Landfill and transfer centre hours vary by location. You can find out hours for specific centres by visiting taupo.govt.nz/rubbish.

If your rubbish and recycling is normally collected on a Friday, it will be collected on the Thursday before Good Friday – so that means rubbish normally collected on Friday, April 2, will be collected Thursday, April 1.

This means our contractors will be collecting a lot more rubbish and recycling than normal tomorrow (Thursday, April 1), so please be patient and expect it may be collected later than usual. We may also be using different trucks for different recyclables, so if some recycling is collected and some left, don’t stress! Another truck is coming! Monday collections will run as normal.

Our customer service centres in Taupō and Turangi will be closed on Good Friday but open 10am to 1pm for the rest of the long weekend. The Mangakino customer service centre will be closed from Good Friday and will reopen on Tuesday, April 6.

Taupō Museum will be closed on Good Friday, but otherwise open every day from 10am to 4.30pm. The AC Baths will be open from 7am to 7pm each day.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”

We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?

Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
