Wellington Water checking Wainuiomata pipes

Reporter Community News

A region-wide project to stop sewage making its way into waterways could end up costing Wainuiomata property owners.
Work crews in Wainuiomata will begin water testing this month before checking residential properties for contamination sources such as faulty cross-connections between wastewater and stormwater systems, and damaged pipes. If they find faulty pipes on your section, you will be responsible for the cost of repair.
The project, Knowing Your Pipes, is a joint initiative by Hutt, Porirua and Wellington city councils, and Wellington Water.
The Hutt City Council is to discuss a voluntary rates postponement package to help property owners affected by incorrectly laid or broken pipes.
