Historic Kopu Bridge welcomes Tour Aotearoa Cycling Brevet

Carolyn from Thames

When the first wave of the 2021 Tour Aotearoa Cycling Brevet departs Cape Reinga on Sunday 21st February, participants will be heading for Bluff on a 3,000km journey which will bring them over the Hauraki Rail Trail to Kōpū. The Historic Kōpū Bridge’s gates will be open to welcome them to our area, weather permitting, from 7am to 3pm (or later, volunteers permitting) from 21st February to 5th March. Tour Aotearoa participants will be just over 500km from Cape Reinga when they reach Kōpū, and about 2,500km from their destination. For a few weeks, the Historic Kōpū Bridge will be one of the most photographed heritage structures in the country. Throughout this period, the bridge is open to everyone: cyclists, walkers, joggers, birdwatchers… or if you have some tales to tell about the old days on the bridge, come along and share them with the volunteers. If you would like to join the roster for this event, please contact us. www.historickopubridge.co.nz... - facebook.com/savekopubridge - historickopubridge@gmail.com

Poll: Should we ditch daylight saving? 🕰️

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

First introduced in New Zealand in 1927 with the passing of the Summer Time Act, it's what we know as 'Daylight Saving' and this year it ends on the first Sunday in April.

While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.

And why? Some evidence suggests the time changes are bad for our health as they mess with sleep patterns leading to short-term fatigue and affecting mood. Meanwhile the hour change is frustrating for farmers and a nightmare for getting the littlies to sleep. But what's your take?

Got more greens than you know what to do with? 🥦🌱🥕

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Whether it’s a courgette takeover or a feijoa frenzy, don’t let those garden gems go to waste!

Our suggestion to you: Did you know you can grate and freeze excess courgettes to use in chocolate cake later? It sounds a bit dodgy, but it makes the cake incredibly moist ... and hey, it counts as a serving of veg, right? 🍫
