Snow puts brakes on Queenstown ski resort's summer activities

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Otago News

Snow has blanketed a Queenstown alpine resort, forcing it to temporarily close its summer operation.

Cardrona Alpine Resort spokeswoman Jen Houltham said eight centimetres of snow had fallen on Tuesday morning, and was “still coming down”.

Cardrona is home to New Zealand’s highest mountainbike park, mountain carting, hiking, stargazing and dining.

“If the trails are covered in snow we can’t get up mountain carting or biking, but as it falls on the warm summer ground it should melt quickly," Houltham said.
