Lizards move into a 'hotel'

Nicholas Boyack Reporter from Community News

Native lizards in Mt Cook have been rehomed to a local "hotel' as part of the project to build a reservoir.
Workers have started the excavation for the 35 million litre reservoir in the Wellington Town Belt, which will double the CBD’s drinking water storage.
In the three weeks before work started, searchers rehomed 26 native northern grass skinks, some pregnant, and one copper skink – both protected species – from the site.
The four “lizard hotels” – piles of logs, soil, and leaf litter – were set up in an area overlooking the excavation site in August by volunteers from the community, and students from Wellington High School, overseen by a team from contractor HEB Construction.
