Tasty additions so summer salads
With summer coming on, salads are becoming popular again, so I thought I would share some simple ways to make a salad a bit more interesting.
Nuts and Seeds such as almonds, sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, etc don't have to be used plain. Try:
* Dry roasting in an oven, or add olive oil and salt and roast.
* Toast in a lightly oiled pan.
* Sprinkle with Tamari or Coconut Aminos, mix through and roast in oven until dry and toasted.
* Try flavouring sunflower or almonds as follows. Mix together 2 tsp olive oil, 1 tsp salt, 2 tsp lime juice, and 1 tsp ground cumin. Mix through the nuts or seeds and roast until dry and toasted.
Top salads with nuts and seeds just before serving, to add different flavours and textures. A great addition to green, beetroot, quinoa, rice or any other salad combination.
* Black Cumin Seeds, Nigella Sativa, also add an interesting flavour. They can be dry toasted until they become fragrant, then sprinkled on salads, or they can be added to a dressing. This is my favourite!
Poll: Should we ditch daylight saving? 🕰️
First introduced in New Zealand in 1927 with the passing of the Summer Time Act, it's what we know as 'Daylight Saving' and this year it ends on the first Sunday in April.
While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.
And why? Some evidence suggests the time changes are bad for our health as they mess with sleep patterns leading to short-term fatigue and affecting mood. Meanwhile the hour change is frustrating for farmers and a nightmare for getting the littlies to sleep. But what's your take?
-
36.6% Yes - get rid of the clock changes
-
62.6% No, I enjoy it
-
0.8% Other - I'll share below
