Pyes Pa Rd near Barkes Cnr Roundabout

Robin from Pyes Pa

Hi Residents, Can anyone please let me know what was achieved (apart from traffic chaos) by installing the ‘silent Policemen’ on the road side of the Bike Lane just before Barkes Cnr Roundabout on Pyes Pa Rd, which causes drivers to jerk away from them when they finally see them. Prior to there installation, the traffic broke from a single file to a double line back at Braithwaite or Stableford, which meant the traffic moved quicker with two lanes entering the roundabout. I get that we shouldn’t really drive over the Cycle lane but travelling at between 6:30am and 7:30am when most commuters are heading to work! I usually see a maximum of 4 Cycles and all are using the footpath, that seemed to allow everyone to work in tandem and everyone was happy. Fast forward to now, and the tailback goes right back from the Barkes Cnr Roundabout to 12 Acre Wood which is crazy that 8 Silent Policemen can cause traffic to back up like that. Please advise why the Council decided they were a necessity! I hope there is a sound reason apart from cheesing drivers off, or words to that effect , some of which I can’t print in this Post. Cheers

Robots are stepping into repetitive roles in factories, plants and warehouses. AI is taking care of the admin tasks that once filled many mid-level office jobs.

We want to know: As the world evolves, what skills do you think give a CV the ultimate edge in a robot-filled workplace?

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
