Thames Genealogy Family Research Day
Thames Branch of NZ Society of Genealogists is having a full research day on Wednesday 19th August. This is a wonderful opportunity for people who are working on their family histories and trees to meet up with friendly, experienced researchers who will share their knowledge and techniques to break through dead ends. As well, the Branch's resources will be available for people to use and some computers as well. The Branch has material relating to tracing family in Thames, throughout NZ, Australia, UK and Ireland and a researcher who can help with Scandinavian origins. Throughout the day there will be short presentations on how to use some of the free online resources that we have access to in NZ. Attendees can also bring their own laptops. Contact Pam 07 8686 492.
This is a popular annual event. It is held at St James Church Hall, Pahau St Thames, from 9am to 2pm. Admission $5.
Poll: Should we ditch daylight saving? 🕰️
First introduced in New Zealand in 1927 with the passing of the Summer Time Act, it's what we know as 'Daylight Saving' and this year it ends on the first Sunday in April.
While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.
And why? Some evidence suggests the time changes are bad for our health as they mess with sleep patterns leading to short-term fatigue and affecting mood. Meanwhile the hour change is frustrating for farmers and a nightmare for getting the littlies to sleep. But what's your take?
-
40.5% Yes - get rid of the clock changes
-
57.6% No, I enjoy it
-
1.9% Other - I'll share below
Got more greens than you know what to do with? 🥦🌱🥕
Whether it’s a courgette takeover or a feijoa frenzy, don’t let those garden gems go to waste!
Our suggestion to you: Did you know you can grate and freeze excess courgettes to use in chocolate cake later? It sounds a bit dodgy, but it makes the cake incredibly moist ... and hey, it counts as a serving of veg, right? 🍫
