Waimakariri's veteran Civil Defence volunteers recognised

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

Three of Waimakariri’s veteran Civil Defence volunteers – including a father-daughter duo – have been recognised for completing more than a decade of service each.

Regional emergency management adviser Peter Cameron presented Mike Bryce, Nikita Bryce and district councillor Kirstyn Barnett with the Ministry of Civil Defence 10-year Long Service Award at a special ceremony hosted at a Civil Defence Cadet camp in Glentui in July.

All three recipients have responded to a variety of emergencies across the South Island, including earthquakes, fires and flooding events.

Congratulations Mike, Nikita and Kirstyn!

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
