Should single sex or co-ed schooling be a choice?

Nelson's only co-ed high school, Nayland College, is implementing an enrolement zone. The boundaries are yet to be decided, but some families in the city centre are concerned they will no longer have the choice of mixed gender schooling, with the other high schools in the city being all boys school, Nelson College, and Nelson College for Girls. Should families have the right to choose whether their children attend co-ed or single sex schools?
