Come and enjoy Historic Kōpū Bridge
Historic Kōpū Bridge will be open every day from 10am to 3pm until 13th March as over 700 riders in the Tour Aotearoa 2020 Cycling Challenge pass through on their 3,000km journey from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Cyclists and walkers, whether locals or visitors from around the country and overseas are making the most of this opportunity to spend some time on the old bridge, take photos, watch the birds and ‘remember when…’ this was the main road to and from Turua, Ngatea, the Plains and Auckland. Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
