Environment Canterbury has no power to control tyre stockpiles
Amberley's controversial tyre stockpile is not the only one in Canterbury, but authorities say they have little power to get them cleaned up.
Environment Canterbury North Canterbury zone delivery manager Andrew Arps said the regional council was aware of three other large stockpiles of tyres – in Hororata, Leeston and the Ashburton area.
However, none were of a size ECan considered to be a problem, with the largest only about a tenth of the size of the Amberley stockpile.
