My Resene Colour Your Community nomination
Kiaora my name is Sandra Carroll, I am nominating My organisation where I work, I am the administrator here at the Highbury Whanau Centre in Highbury on Monrad park Palmerston North. I have worked here for coming up 19 years, I started as a Youthworker but now I'm the administrator here.
The reason I am writing is I would love to win this so we can paint our drab foyer and whanau room. I sit at my desk in the foyer and I used to clean all the wall form scuff marks etc but now its just beyond it. Also the whanau room. This would not just be for my eye pleasure this would be for the whole community.
The whanau centre is used daily to run Alternative education but is used by a social services group for counselling, also every evening by different groups IE; Kapahaka, 2 x leisure marching ladies, filipino basketball group, Holiday programs, after school primary school programs, Fitness groups, Te reo Maori free community classes. This is a NGO non profit organisation and no where in our budgets does it allow for painting and making our space look nice. We have been operating in the Highbury Community since 1984 where we started in what is now the Highbury Library. Then we moved over to the newer Highbury Whanau Community Centre. We are in a 50/50 ownership with the PNCC and the maintainance side being our responsibility, We do get some funding to run our programmes but we dont skim off these for maintainance as we report back to our providers. All funding goes specifically on the community and youth work provided.
So please consider my request I would love our organisation to win this opportunity so much, Thanks Sandra

Poll: As a customer, what do you think about automation?
The Press investigates the growing reliance on your unpaid labour.
Automation (or the “unpaid shift”) is often described as efficient ... but it tends to benefit employers more than consumers.
We want to know: What do you think about automation?
Are you for, or against?
-
9.5% For. Self-service is less frustrating and convenient.
-
43.5% I want to be able to choose.
-
47.1% Against. I want to deal with people.
Kiwisaver Changes
Has your accountant told you about recent changes to KiwiSaver contribution rates and how they may affect wages and payroll calculations?
These updates can have flow-on effects for both employers and employees, and understanding them early helps avoid surprises.
Many business owners rely on their accountant not just for compliance, but for timely communication and practical guidance when changes occur.
