Southern Landfill Proposal - Join the Conversation.

Daniel Melbye from Wellington City Council

Kei te pau haere te wāhi mō ngā rāpihi
We’re running out of room for our rubbish

With only four years left until the current stage of the Southern Landfill is full, it’s time to talk about what we do with our waste next.

The Landfill is critical to the smooth-running of our city. It’s currently where we dispose of all the treated sewage sludge from Moa Point, it takes approximately 100,000m3 of waste per year and it funds $6 million of waste minimisation and recycling services every year.

We think extending the Landfill is the best way forward, but we need to check out what alternatives are around. Alternatives like closing the Landfill, building a waste-to-energy plant or using biological processes.

We want to know what’s important to you when we are considering future waste management in Wellington City.
