Heavy rain watch
MetService has issued a heavy rain watch for the following:
Area: Taihape.
Valid: 30 hours from 2:00am Thursday to 8:00am Friday.
Forecast: Brief periods of rain, with possibly heavy falls and thunderstorms, are expected to return from early Thursday morning. Rainfall accumulations may approach short duration Warning criteria in these areas.
An update for severe weather will be issued by 9:00pm Wednesday 21 Aug 2019.
Scam Alert: Bank cold calls
ASB is warning customers about reports of cold calls from scammers claiming to be from ASB. These scammers are trying to obtain personal information, including usernames, dates of birth, and verification codes sent to your mobile phone.
🛡️ The "Caller Check" Test
If you get a call from someone claiming to be from ASB and you’re unsure, just ask them for a Caller Check. You will then be able to verify the call through the app.
Remember, banks will:
❌ Never ask for your banking passwords, PINs, or verification codes
❌ Never need to know your full credit card number – especially the CVC
❌ Never ask you to download software or remotely access your device
❌ Never ask you to purchase gift cards or transfer funds.
If you have received a phone call and think your account has been compromised, call ASB on 0800 ASB FRAUD (0800 272 372), or visit your local branch.

Cave Exploration
The Manawatu Caving Group are exploring caves in the Wairoa district this coming weekend. If you feel that caving may be of interest then contact me to organise a trip, local or further away. This activity gets you out of the house, many times seeing parts of the country you have never seen before, requires some/ lots of tramping when exploring, team work, often rope work and 2 - 3 star accommodation.
