Road closures due to snow
A freezing blast has seen temperatures drop as low as -8 degrees Celsius overnight, with snow closing some roads.
The Lewis Pass and Takaka Hill roads are both closed, as is SH7 between Reefton and Springs Junction.
Christchurch Transport Operations Centre spokesman Steven Mann said a full assessment of all South Island road closures was expected to be completed by 10am.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
