Vehicle restrictions have now been lifted between Geraldine and Fairlie.
Chains are now not required but NZTA have cautioned drivers to continue to "take extra care" on the road, as well as SH8 Fairlie to Twizel and SH80 Pukaki to Mt Cook Village.
According to the MetService forecast, snow is predicted for the rest of the week, down to about 600 metres on Friday, about 700m on Saturday and possibly as low as 500m on Sunday.
