Poll: Living responsibly
My husband and I did the Wanganui Journey(one of the Great Walks DOC offers) with our son and nephew in 2013. It was the first outdoor adventure we did together. It was the best thing I ever did. Since then we have completed 7 of the Great walks. DOC has done a fabulous job and I take my hat off to the Wardens and volunteers. Just a couple of weeks ago I went for a walk along the Petone Esplanade and found no rubbish on the foreshore (not that I went looking for it), but I saw a new electonic rubish bin that called itself SMART with its blinkers on full to the brim and smelling. I know for years there are volunteers who go out to pick up the rubbish some one has left behind, however I can not understand how it is that we can not take our own rubbish with us. Coming back to our Great Walk experience we knew we had to take all our rubbish with us and we had absolutely no problem with that and neither did anyone else and we were not at all surprised. Our Public places are part of the Greater Wellington Region and the environment is equal to what DOC looks after. I am putting this poll up to get an idea on how many people like the idea of their RATES BEING USED TO PICK UP OTHER PEOPLES RUBBISH!
-
5.3% I do not need public rubbish bins for my rubbish
-
15.8% I do not want my rates to pay for picking up other peoples rubbish
-
0% Our communities are to be equally respected with National Parks
-
78.9% I am responsible for my own rubbish in Public Places
