Firefighters call for care when disposing of fireplace ashes

Firefighters were called to an incident on Hill Road when the careless disposal of fireplace ashes set a compost heap alight.

It is advised that "ashes should be in a metal bucket once you have cleaned out your fire box. When you’ve wet them down thoroughly you can deposit them on to your garden or compost heap or around the base of your trees without issue.”
