Harrison Street flats demolition update #2 (01/07/2019)

Carl from Brooklyn Residents Association Incorporated

Hello, our latest update demolition of the old Harrison Street flats by WCC (and their contractors Naylor Love). The initial securing of the site and removal of external asbestos soffit panels (under the roof line) has been completed.

We have assurances from WCC officers that the contractors will have strict traffic controls and vehicle management plans so as not to interrupt vehicle flows around the Brooklyn Bus Hub down Harrison St and entering Cleveland St. While there is likely to be heavy demolition waste (and tradespeople's) vehicles coming back and forth through the Brooklyn village, we do not expect huge numbers of vehicles in the grand scheme of things.

However demolition has now come to a halt and we have been informed that the demolition completion date has been pushed back several weeks. So August sometime now. We are not completely sure as to why there is a delay but do note the building has been sealed up (boards over windows) and actual demolition appears to be scheduled while Brooklyn School is "out" with July holidays. Curious timing. We will monitor with interest.

Poll: If we want to reduce speeding, what do you think actually changes driver behaviour? πŸ›»πŸš¨πŸš“

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In the Post's article on speeding penalties, the question is asked whether speeding fines are truly about road safety, or are they just a way to boost revenue for the Crown?

What do you think? Should speeding motorists receive speeding fines or demerit points?
