Nutrition Research: Do you think you may have high blood sugar? We need you!

Janice from Torbay - Long Bay

Hope everyone had an awesome Easter break! We are currently looking for individuals who may have elevated blood sugar level (prediabetes) to participate in the study to see if antioxidant-rich plant extracts may help improve blood sugar levels. To express interest, go to: goo.gl...

Importance of this research:
An estimated 670, 000 New Zealanders have prediabetes, and many others are unaware of the condition. Prediabetes is a state higher than normal blood sugar level, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. However, people with prediabetes are at high risk of becoming diabetic. We are examining how nutrition such as antioxidant-rich plant extracts can prevent the progression towards diabetes.

How do you know you are at risk?
You should be tested for prediabetes if you have any of the following:
1. obesity (BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more if you are Indo-Asian)
2. family history of early age onset of type 2 diabetes in more than one first degree relative (parent, brother or sister)
3. a woman who has had gestational diabetes
4. high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease (conditions affecting your heart and blood vessels)

You may have a quick check in the link to see if you are at risk: diabetesauckland.org.nz...

If you think you are at risk and would like to participate in the study, we would like to invite you over for a screening at your convenient time. The study requires four mornings and each session takes approximately 3 hours. You will be able to do your own work during this time. We are flexible with the time you can come for the study sessions. The study is also available on weekends. Free free to ask any questions too!

Poll: Should complete designs be shared with the public, or should the community help shape the designs from the start?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Post recently shared an opinion piece on the Harbour Crossing and why a more democratic approach might be needed 🚗🚲👟

While most decisions sit within the political arena, many organisations—like NZTA—manage long-term projects that go beyond party lines. Politics can sometimes disrupt progress, and the next Harbour Crossing is a big decision that will affect all Aucklanders.

We’d love your thoughts: Should near-complete, shovel-ready designs be shared with the public, or should the community have a hand in shaping the designs from the start?

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
