ANZAC DAY 2019, KARORI CEMETERY, 12.30 - 1.15pm
During WW1 the National Women’s Reserve spent many months lobbying government to have a dedicated portion of Karori Cemetery set aside as a National Memorial where those whose sons had died overseas could grieve. Finally, in June 1918, the first service man was buried. On Anzac Day 2019 this free public talk will examine the historical context and the heritage features of the oldest part of the Services section, and tell some of the stories of men who had fought at Gallipoli but were buried at Karori. Meet at the Lychgate on the main cemetery road, 500 metres from the gates on Old Karori Road. Parking available in the area. The talk will start at 12.30 and take 45 minutes.
