farm animals

Joan from Levin

Two things I have been puzzling about on my weekly trips to Palmerston North via Opiki. I might be blind but I see very few water troughs for farm animals from Shannon onwards. Might see livestock hanging around those that are present but never see them drinking. Are those empty? The second thing is no shelterbelt, most evidently around the Opiki area which as most people know has high winds which are bleak and cold in the winter, add rain into the mix - not pleasant for any living species. In the summer the animals have nowhere to get shade from the sun. Why do farming people think their animals dont need shelter? Wonder how they would manage having to experience those conditions 24hrs/7days a week? Now if farmers see this and have a reaction My guess will be 'guilty'. If they are doing the right thing by their livestock then congratulations are due. Cheers

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
