cutting down trees

Can some one tell me when how is it there are trees in Levin that are protected from being cut down in of town .Here,s the big BUT there is are tree in the old hospital that are protected that are going to be cut down to make room for houses . This i was told by one of the owners as he knows some one on the council who are going to pass a ruling to let this go a heard does not same right some how all about who you know in this town
