Building and Woodworking Projects

Steve from Motueka

Hi neighbors - I'm Steve, and I'm a woodworker and builder living in Marahau Valley. I'm open to all kinds of projects, big or small, and in the past, I've mainly done custom built-ins and tricky things that people want but can't really buy at the store. I'm a former civil engineer, so I want to build things as safely and precise as I can, but I'm also into it being funky and fun.

I've attached a few photos of some projects I've done in New Zealand so far, and my website, stevethebuildersf.com, has pictures from other projects and a little info about me at the bottom. I helped design and build the new seedling propagation shed at the Takaka Community Gardens, designed and built booths for a friend's church/conference center cafe in Christchurch, and opened up a kitchen wall and installed a countertop for a friend in Collingwood. At my current place, I'm doing different projects around the house and property, with a deck bathroom in progress, and a permanent roof and deck around a caravan.

If you have any ideas, whether it's spicing up an outdoor space, fixing up furniture or anything around the house, bringing a project to life that's been conceptualized for a few years, or something you're not sure is possible, feel free to send me a message and see what we can come up with. I'm happy to meet in person, draw up spaces in 3D modeling, and brainstorm ideas to lead us to a final product we're both delighted with.

All the best,
Steve

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?

We hope this brings a smile!
