We want your views on some changes we’re proposing to the gambling venues policy. Gambling venues can only be located in commercial or industrial areas in Tauranga – we’re proposing to instate an additional 100m buffer from residential zones with higher social deprivation, so no venue could relocate right next to those areas, where the risk of gambling-related harm is higher. Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
