Godwits welcomed to Shoal and Ngataringa Bays
A very good number of the community welcomed the return of the Godwits to Devonport Peninsula, Labour Weekend Saturday. We took part in a mihi to the flock roosting just off-shore on a rare shell-bank, acknowledged the elements of our special environment and heard how the birds' flight-path has been tracked and of the risks to their habitat world-wide - including New Zealand. Thanks to Auckland Council and Local Community Ranger, Devonport Peninsula Trust, New World Devonport, Shore to Thrive, Oona Caldwell, BeanBoy , Tāmaki Makaurau Placemaking Week 2018, and Forest & Bird North Shore.
