WARNING - Run your taps in the morning to prevent contamination
The Marlborough District Council has issued a public statement its website warning people in Marlborough to run their taps in the morning to prevent metal contamination.
All standard procedure though, nothing to be alarmed about, said council operations and maintenance engineer Stephen Rooney. The council statement said water supplies in Blenheim, Picton, Renwick, Havelock and the Wairau Valley were plumbosolvent, and therefore more likely to contain traces of metal.
The ministry said though the health risk was small, it recommended residents ran a mug-full of water from the drinking tap each morning before use, to remove metals that might have accumulated overnight.
