SH 2 Waioeka Gorge to close for short period on Wednesday

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The NZ Transport Agency is advising State Highway 2 Waioeka Gorge is expected to be closed for around 45 minutes on Wednesday 19 September while rock removal work takes place.

The closure will take place near Oponae and is expected to be carried out between 11am and 11.45am.

Transport Agency Bay of Plenty Journey Manager, Nigel D’Ath, says people can expect delays in the area for most of Wednesday.

“The rock-face stabilisation work is expected to reduce the risk of further slips. The majority of the work will be carried out during the closure but there may also be times when the road needs to be closed for short periods while more debris is brought down.

“We’d like to thank people in advance for their patience and ask them to stay up to date by checking our website and social media throughout the day,” Mr D’Ath says.

Further short closures may be needed later this month. People will be advised if this is to occur.

Poll: Should we ditch daylight saving? 🕰️

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

First introduced in New Zealand in 1927 with the passing of the Summer Time Act, it's what we know as 'Daylight Saving' and this year it ends on the first Sunday in April.

While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.

And why? Some evidence suggests the time changes are bad for our health as they mess with sleep patterns leading to short-term fatigue and affecting mood. Meanwhile the hour change is frustrating for farmers and a nightmare for getting the littlies to sleep. But what's your take?
