South Canterbury skifield yet to open due to lack of snowfall

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Lack of snowfall in the Canterbury High Country this winter has prevented the opening of a popular ski area. Niwa meteorologist Ben Noll says snowfall patterns in Canterbury have been affected due to warmer airflows and because of these snowball patterns, Fairlie's Fox Peak ski area is yet to open.

The club's president Alistair Millar says the weather patterns have been coming from the west. He said while they won't be making any profits this season, there won't be any financial implications on the skifield. Millar said they're hoping for a good dumping of snow in the next few days, but that was "wishful thinking".

"It's disappointing for the ones that have bought season passes ... but that's just the risk you take."

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
