An Invitation from Fire and Emergency NZ

Cori from Bishopdale

Hi everyone,

We value our firefighters! They are brave and risk their own safety for us when we need them! So, when Rochelle Martin of Fire and Emergency NZ said she wanted to contact Bishopdale residents with the following invitation, I thought, why not? Here's the invitation from Rochelle:

"We have an opportunity for Bishopdale residents and we thought you might be interested - or might know someone who will be.

Would you, or someone close to you, like to be a career firefighter?

Fire and Emergency NZ is opening recruitment for career firefighters on 20 July.

In a recent survey 25% of people told us they would consider a career as a firefighter. Fire and Emergency New Zealand offers a steady job, career progression and multiple opportunities to put skills such as problem solving, empathy and team-building to good use.

From working in communities and schools to fighting fires and responding to motor vehicle accidents, the role is varied. No two days are the same. It’s not 9 to 5 and it’s not behind a desk.

We have firefighters from a range of diverse backgrounds and life experience.

Don’t let concerns like not being fit enough get in the way of applying. Our fitness video – which outlines how to prepare for the fitness test (only one element of the recruitment process) – is online and includes a training programme to get you test ready.

Applications can be received from 20 July to 20 August with successful applicants needing to be available to start training in January or April 2019. You can find more information at www.fireandemergency.nz... or feel free to ask me any questions you have.

For those of you happy in your work - consider becoming a volunteer. We need people up and down the country with a wide range of skills. Find out more here.

Stay Safe

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

ASB is warning customers about reports of cold calls from scammers claiming to be from ASB. These scammers are trying to obtain personal information, including usernames, dates of birth, and verification codes sent to your mobile phone.

🛡️ The "Caller Check" Test
If you get a call from someone claiming to be from ASB and you’re unsure, just ask them for a Caller Check. You will then be able to verify the call through the app.

Remember, banks will:
❌ Never ask for your banking passwords, PINs, or verification codes
❌ Never need to know your full credit card number – especially the CVC
❌ Never ask you to download software or remotely access your device
❌ Never ask you to purchase gift cards or transfer funds.

If you have received a phone call and think your account has been compromised, call ASB on 0800 ASB FRAUD (0800 272 372), or visit your local branch.

Building job

Lesley from Bishopdale

I would like a pantry made in the gap the old hot water tank used to be. This involves a wall being taken out but it isn't load bearing.
Also a shelter outside over the bin area needs replacing.
I have tried Builders Crack and of the 3 only one turned up and I want more estimates.
Any recommendations of builders or handyman who are happy to at least have a look.
