Wellington flights cancelled as ex-Tropical Cyclone Gita approaches

Reporter Stuff

It's a wet, gloomy day in Wellington, and it's forecast to get worse.

Flights in and out of Wellington have been cancelled due to ex-Cyclone Gita.

High winds are predicted to strike around 7pm Tuesday, with winds up to 130kmh. Fortunately the rain is forecast to ease from midday.

For the latest on the weather, and updates on transport disruptions, follow the link to our live blog.

Let us know how the weather is where you are in the comments. Has the rain and/or wind caused damage at your place?

Do you have a Gita question or concern you'd like one of our reporters to look into for you?

(Please add "NFP/not for print" if you do not want your images/comments used on Stuff).

This initiative helps stop plastic from reaching our oceans and makes our waterways cleaner and safer for everyone.

We want to know: Should this be rolled out across all coastal cities in Aotearoa? And more importantly… would you get involved? 💚

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
