Vehicles on the beach
On Sunday we had a phone call about a car on the beach near the river mouth. The driver was "driving like and idiot" doing wheelies and speeding.
Constable Mike McKenzie found him and impounded the car for 28 days. The driver will be appearing in Court next week charged with several driving offences including driving while disqualified.
So another hoon and his car is off the beach.
Police need to know when people are driving dangerously on the beach. Please let us know. Call 111 if you think that someone is going to be hurt and *555 if the matter is not so urgent. Remember to get a registration number if possible , and photos are good evidence.
I am told by many people that motorcycles and ATVs do not seem to be the problem they have been in recent years. The Foxton Beach Patrol and Himatangi Community Patrol have done great work this summer and can take much of the credit for this.
There are always going to be people that think that driving dangerously on the beach around other people is ok. I guess this is the same as the problems we have on the open road.
We all have to work together to make the beach a safe place for everyone.
Dave Fraser.

Keep yourself protected against Covid
It might not be making quite so many headlines these days, but unfortunately, Covid is still here. If you’re 65 or over, taking care of yourself is just as important as ever.
The good news is, keeping up to date with the Covid vaccine can help protect you from serious illness. It’s free. And recommended for you and many others as long as you haven’t had the vaccine, or Covid, in the last 6 months.
To book your vaccination, or talk to your healthcare provider.
