Workday at Alice Eaves Bush

David Neighbourly Lead from Orewa

The weather cleared in time to allow Friends of Alice Eaves Bush to carry out their first workday for 2018. The team concentrated on clearing weeds along the border of the boardwalk at the western edge of the park. Earlier plantings of native trees had become a bit overgrown with weeds so a good cleanup here was warranted. The team also managed to haul a footbridge out of the Nukumea Stream. This footbridge had washed downstream in an earlier flood.
Friends of Alice Eaves Bush would respectfully remind anyone using the park to remember to spray their footwear before entering the reserve. Keep to the paths. Keep dogs on leads. This is to prevent the spread of kauri dieback. If this disease infects kauri trees in the park it would most likely result in Alice Eaves Bush being closed to the public.
Anyone interested in joining the group to help in the park would be most welcome. The group meets at the park on the first Saturday of each month, weather permitting

Animal Abuser

Lois from Red Beach

🚨 URGENT WARNING TO ALL LOST & FOUND / PET REHOMING PAGES 🚨 and people rehoming pets or reporting lost animals.

It has come to our attention that a long-term, repeat animal abuser is still actively obtaining animals through Facebook groups.

The type of animal does not matter — birds, livestock, dogs, small pets — anything he can access.

He monitors rehoming pages. He approaches people offering “help.” He presents as reasonable. He will say the right things.

Do not give this person any animals under any circumstances.

If you are an admin of a lost & found page, a community group, or a pet rehoming group:

• Please stay vigilant
• Check profiles carefully
• Share this warning across your networks

Animals have already paid the price for people not knowing.
If you are unsure about someone requesting an animal, ask rescue groups to help.
