Mauao base track will close Friday morning 5 January

Communications Team from Tauranga City Council

Hi everyone, we’re planning to close the Mauao base track before tomorrow morning’s high tide. Here's what you need to know:

• Both the base track and Moturiki (Leisure Island) will be closed from 7am Friday 5 January until conditions are suitable for reopening.

• No plans to close the summit tracks at this stage.

• We’re removing part of the beach access mat so it doesn’t get damaged. It will be reinstalled early next week.

There's also a king tide due tonight around 10pm, so please keep clear of all beaches and waterways, wherever you are along the coast or in the harbour. We’ll be keeping an eye on the wind and tides late tonight. The Mount and Papamoa beachside and holiday parks are prepped. “Proceed with caution” signs are out for now on the Mauao base track. Stay safe.
