Tauranga looks at monorail option to ease commuter woes
A $560 million monorail system could be the answer to Tauranga's traffic woes, council has been told.
The Transport Committee received a presentation from SkyCab director Hugh Chapman who pitched the public transport concept.
SkyCabs differ from the traditional monorail in that small, driverless cars are suspended beneath a beam suspended eight to metres above the city streets.
Stations would be located every 750 metres to one kilometre of the line with existing buildings being utilised to house stations.
