TO ALL SH16 ROAD USERS - recently caught up in traffic on the way to work.
For those not aware - There is a local PETITION titled:
NZTA: COMPLETE FOUR LANE SECTIONS ON SH16 on website: CHANGE. ORG
. The aim is to attempt to influence NZTA to reduce present and future congestion with 1700 supporters having joined the petition in a month.
To give you a visual of these numbers, IMAGINE each petitioner as the driver of a car in a single lane of queued vehicles and they are leaving the traffic signals in Kumeu.
With about 143 vehicles make a km queue – the front car in the queue will have passed the LINCOLN ROAD ONRAMP en-route to Auckland.
For the petition to get to the NZTA HQ’ in Auckland, we would appreciate more locals joining and sharing with any Organisation, local group, or friends you know may be users of SH16 and may wish to support us. The petition link is:

In short; NZTA have a proposed SH16 Road Safety Project, which is expected to be completed by 2021. This includes a SH16 widening to four lanes from the NW M/Way to the Taupaki Interchange and a two-lane Roundabout at the intersection of Riverhead-Coatesville with SH16. There are numerous safety improvements between there and Waimauku, but this does little to resolve the congestion along that area.
Between Kumeu and Taupaki – 2.5 km’s of SH16 will remain 2 laned. NZTA have no current plans to widen this section of road and with the BYPASS not being commenced before the early 2030’s, residents can either accept what NZTA advises, or make their voices count. 1700 are asking NZTA to reconsider integrating the widening of the 2.5km stretch of roadway into the new project which is due for the 2021 completion.
Hopefully you may wish to join us.
Cheers
