Wildflowers in Kaikoura
Have you seen the wildflowers on your doorstep? In our June issue, we had asked plantsman Gordon Collier to name the best place in NZ to see wildflowers, and he chose Kaikoura, arguably better known for its marine life. "The attractions of this seaside town are well known. Yet, a few springs ago, I found here an unheralded but spectacular display
of antirrhinums stretching away on rocky banks. I had to stop and clamber over the rubble ground to stand among the tall spikes of multicoloured snapdragons, mainly flowering in cerise to pinks and purple flowers.... The wild antirrhinums at Kaikoura were something I won’t easily forget."
