Wild weather expected to hit Christchurch overnight
Heavy rain forecast to hit Christchurch and Banks Peninsula overnight could cause surface flooding and slips in some areas.
The tail end of Cyclone Debbie has been lashing the country since yesterday and is starting to make its presence felt in Christchurch.
Heavy rain is forecast to fall across the city and Banks Peninsula overnight, with the heaviest falls likely early tomorrow morning.
The MetService is also warning that southwest gales could batter Banks Peninsula tomorrow, with gusts of 140km/h possible in exposed places. Winds of that strength could cause damage to trees and powerlines and make driving hazardous.
