We've gone electric!

Hilary MorrishAllen from Lake Taupo Hospice

'Hospice Hero' Steve Greenwood and the team from Central Motor Group delivered their newest donation to Lake Taupo Hospice in the form of a Nissan 'Leaf' - the latest in electric car technology.  This vehicle continues a long tradition of supporting Lake Taupo Hospice by the group, who have regularly donated vehicles over the years for the community nursing and family support teams to use.

As Lake Taupo Hospice CEO Jeff Bennett says "Running a vehicle fleet is crucial to the work we do.  As a community based hospice focussed on enabling patients to stay in their own homes our staff travel thousands of kilometres each year visiting patients throughout our area, therefore anything we can do to reduce this cost is truly beneficial.  As we are dependent on fundraising and sponsorship from the local community in order to continue our work, 'no cost' options such as this electric car are of enormous benefit.  By reducing our daily running expenses it means that we can target even more of every dollar raised towards developing new services for our patients and their families".

The car provides great travel distances on a single charge, plus has plenty of boot and car space to accommodate all of the community nurses gear plus any specialist equipment that needs to be delivered to the patient, and in the future Lake Taupo Hospice hopes to convert all its fleet to economical electric vehicles such as these.

'Hospice Heroes' like Central Motor Group represent businesses that support hospice through donations of  services, skills and equipment for which they would otherwise have to pay and are integral to ensuring the success of hospice services to our community.
