Franklin's Finest

Julie Kaio Reporter from Franklin County News

There’s less than a month left to nominate someone for our Franklin’s Finest People of the Year Awards.
We’ve had some great entries come in, but we are still looking for a lot more to come through over the next three weeks.
All nominators go in the draw to win a $500 voucher from the team at Mitre 10 Mega Pukekohe.
This is a great incentive to put pen to paper and put someone up for the awards.
For categories like Junior Achiever, Community Worker, Sports Personality and Employee, just a nomination is a great addition to a CV because all nominees are sent an official letter.
Other categories like Volunteer, Inspiration, Act of Kindness and Lifetime Achievement are simply neat ways to acknowledge the efforts of our community heroes.
So please take a moment to nominate that special someone - or you can email me direct at julie.kaio@fairfaxmedia.co.nz

Illegal dumping

Mainie from Pukekohe

This is awful how people just disregard bylaws. dump their rubbish in parks and waterways to try get away with having to pay dumping costs at the rubbish dumps and transfer stations. This also can cause flooding again due to blocking the grate of the culvert in Princes street. No thought for neighbours or damage that can be caused by their actions.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
