130 Hei Hei - Avonhead bus service detouring at night away from Riccarton Rd & Kilmarnock St Monday 24th & Tuesday 25th October

On Monday 24th October and Tuesday 25th October all buses will detour away from Riccarton Rd and Kilmarnock St between 7pm and 5.30am each night while road works are carried out at the intersection of Riccarton Rd and Deans Ave. Buses travelling towards Avonhead will detour off Riccarton Rd onto Mona Vale Ave then back onto Kilmarnock St to continue the normal route. Buses travelling towards Westfield and Hei Hei will detour off Kilmarnock St onto Mona Vale Ave back onto Riccarton Rd to continue the normal route. Bus stops 17207 and 17932 on Riccarton Rd will be closed during this time and passengers can use temporary stops available on Riccarton Rd between Mona Vale Ave and Harakeke St instead. Bus stops 10128, 10116, 10976 and 10995 on Kilmarnock St will also be closed during this time and temporary stops will be available further west on Kilmarnock St close to Matai St corner. DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?
