Jackson Street is a heritage icon at the hub of Petone. It combines an eclectic mix of old buildings with fantastic cafés, boutique shopping together with beauty and commercial services. The retail strip boasts a huge variety of specialty shops, cafés, bars & restaurants.
The Jackson Street Programme (JSP) is an incorporated society set up in 1993. It promotes the street as a destination for shopping, eating out, professional services, commercial services and socialising. It also organises promotional and community events.
Its main source of funds is a targeted rate levied by the Hutt City Council on commercial ratepayers in the street. Funds also come from charitable donations and subscriptions paid by supporters / associate members.
Three part-time staff run the activities of the JSP from its office in the Historic Police Station, 274b Jackson Street, Petone.
The board of the JSP is elected at an annual general meeting held each spring.
